Loved this laptop. I don't exactly think $600 is a drop in the bucket. Anotherwords, Toshiba does not stand behind its product.
After about 2 min. Customer service told me I should have spent the extra $ to buy a brand new one with a full warranty. until I started having issues with it in the 9th month.
I have bought 'refurbished' items many times before and never had any issues, as most anything that is returned with an open box is sold as 'refurbished' after it is checked. on the phone with them, the techs pretty much concluded the motherboard is done.& basically that's the whole computer. Apparently I purchased a 'B' level computer, which is a refurbished one & only warrantied for 90 days.
Nice little insult. Extrememly disappointed to say the least.
(oh, and I'm right handed).a) The power plug is on the side. I eject it many times a day when I go to plug it in, unplug it, pick it up, put it down, etc. Performance review and spec reviews can tell you this this machine will do what you want it to do. This is decidedly an inconvenient position as it clumps all your mouse connection and cable right where you want your mouse to be. It looks pretty when it's unwrapped and sitting there, but like I said, I don't use this as a desktop replacement.d) The heat issues are valid. This means you can't prop it up on its side when when you set it down. It's not something you notice immediately sitting prettily on the display shelf at the store, but it's something that gets annoying very quickly as you attempt to pick up your laptop to stuff it in a bag, only to have it compress on you.d) The DVD eject button is very sensitive.
This makes wrapping up the cable a task that is physically stressful to the power cable connections. But I have a few comments about what is decidedly inconvenient about this model.My notes are based on using this as a mobile unit, not a desktop replacement. Basically, I've gotten used to the fact that any physical movement always involves an additional step of shutting the DVD tray.e) The power brick's cables jut out at opposing ends. The heat sink is on the other side, which means you can't set it down on that side either.b) The USB connectors are on the sides, near you. You have to plug your mouse into the opposite side's USB connections and wrap the cable around the back of the laptop to get clearance to use your mouse.c) The DVD opening makes that side of the laptop flimsy when trying to grip it. You have to force bend the cable a hard 180% to wrap it neatly. I often use this laptop on the bed as a bed warmer on cold nights.
this is amazing laptop, BUT Toshiba, WHY you removed the second SATA interface., that was unfair, my laptop now has useless second hard drive bay., why the empty space. what should I do with it., it's really stupid to do that.
Toshiba Satellite A305D-S6831 15.4-inch Laptop (AMD Turion 64 X 2 Dual Core TL-64 Gold Processor, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium)I couldn't be happier with this solid, well-rounded laptop. It has possibly the most comfortable keyboard I have ever used and a beautiful display. The laptop is loaded with RAM and has a large hard disk.
We purchased the machine to be our primary home computer to pay bills, balance the books, surf the internet, etc. For day-to-day activities it has plenty of computational horsepower and the screen is quite bright. A solidly built laptop, this computer has a pleasing sturdy feel to it and very well-arranged controls. We also play an occasional game. Harmon Kardon speakers give great sound and volume for their compact size. USB ports are conveniently located on the sides where you can access them--which also makes them easier to bump. We have found this to be an excellent and reliable machine and we recommend it without reservations. Last, the white lighting scheme on the keyboard is very cool and helps you get your bearings in low light conditions.
